- You may also need to provide your GRE scores if applicable
NPS accepts digital and paper transcripts. If you are sending hard copy transcripts, they must be sent directly to NPS from the previous institution you attended.
The official mailing address for transcripts is: Naval Postgraduate School Admissions Office (Official Transcripts), 589 Dyer Road, Root Hall-100, Monterey, CA 93943-5100. Digital transcripts can be sent to [email protected].
Because students at NPS must be sponsored by either an employer or their military command, they are not allowed to pay their tuition and NPS will not accept payment from a student. Payment is made via funding documents—which change depending on what organization is paying the tuition.
NPS Housing requires that all military personnel get in touch with the Housing Services Office (HSO) before signing any lease/rent agreements. The HSO can be reached at (831) 242-7979.
HSO can also assist you with landlord/tenant disputes and mediations in addition to referral assistance and obtaining community rental search information.
NPS has varying deadlines depending on what program you are applying for. For questions or assistance with the application process, this is a good place to start.
Academic Offerings / Programs
NPS offers degrees in more than 60 fields of study including national security, electrical engineering, computer engineering, space systems, physics and much more.
The Naval Postgraduate School began as a marine engineering institution in Maryland back in 1909. Three years later, NPS was dubbed the Postgraduate Department of the United States Naval Academy. Up until 1945, the school was unable to confer degrees to its students—it was when Ernest King, a naval Fleet Admiral, created a committee to assess graduate education for military personnel.
Thanks to Admiral King's efforts, Congress passed legislation that designated NPS as an accredited higher education institution. Two years later, Congress provided funding that allowed for the purchase of the Hotel Del Monte in California which would become the new HQ for NPS. Finally, in 1951, NPS settled down in Monterey where it has remained for the past 67 years.
NPS hosts students from the U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy in addition to students from allied countries and civilian employees.
To access the campus, you must be vetted before being granted access. You will be asked to provide your social security number and date of birth for ID verification.
